If you’re a total newbie to the whole web designing business, you’ve come to the right place. Web design is a tricky thing to deal with, and with that being said there are many things that you have to keep in mind. Enumerated below are the things that you should think through before making any major decisions regarding the website you’re going to make (or the website you’re having made). Listed below are the tips that you will definitely find useful in the near future. All it takes is organization and a clear picture of what you want for a website.

Introduction

What type of website are you going to have?

Of course before anyone makes a website, one should decide first what type it will come in. Will it be a blog, portfolio, business or e-commerce? This is a crucial choice to make because all of the other steps that will succeed this will be dependent on the type of website you want to have. Imagine what the layout will look like and once you have a clear picture, take note of it.

The next step is deciding what you want to do with it. If it’s a portfolio website, are you just there to showcase your work or are you selling your works online? These factors are also important because some elements of your website will be based solely on the function of your website.

Who will do the work?

Do you have the skills to create the website by yourself — or are you so clueless that you need professional help? This is also an important decision because it involves factors like skills, time and money. If you can do it by yourself, why hire other people to do it for you? You’re doing yourself a favor by saving a lot of money, as compared to seeking professional help when in fact you can do it on your own.

You should think this decision through properly. There are always cons and pros to both sides of the argument. You should remember though, that there is a good chance that if you want something done properly, it would take more time than you first anticipated. That’s another factor you should take into account.

CMS, Template or Coded from scratch?

What do you want your website to be built on? You can choose CMS’s (Content Management Systems) like WordPress that gives you access to a lot of free (or paid) themes which you can use almost instantaneously. No coding knowledge is even required!

Who is your target audience?

What kind of people are you expecting will visit your website? If they’re children, you might want to use bright colors to make it look happy. If they are adults in general, you might want to keep it simple and intuitive. You can mix and match and even add your personal style to it, but surveys suggest that most people find minimalistic pages appealing.

What kind of content will be seen in your website?

You should be able to answer this at the early stages of making your website.  Organizing your ideas will also help. People wouldn’t want to read website with entries that are all over the place. Once you have a clear picture of what your website is supposed to look like, you know you’re ready for the next step.

The bigger picture of your design

Look for a design that is aesthetically-pleasing but at the same time conveys your message loud and clear. You can browse through web design galleries if you need some more help with aesthetics.

Don’t feel pressured to find one right away. Take time to look for the perfect theme because you’re not going to like it any more in the future if you’ve already hated it to start with.

Smaller design elements

Now that you have a clear, big picture as to what your website will look like, it’s time to pay attention to the details. You might change your mind from time to time and that’s okay. The choices you will have for this portion of the website-making will depend on what your website is built on. If you chose a pre-made CMS theme, your choices are pretty limited.

Be accessible!

Be friendly with your customers by giving them the chance to get in touch with you. It’s important that they’ll be able to have access to your contact information without having to go through so much through your website. It’s a good move to include a lot of contact information (eg phone, email address, etc) because different people have different preferences when it comes to contact.

There you have it, guys. Only a few of the many things you should consider should you make a website. These are the basic things you should know as a beginner in the business of web design.
